We're live with the D6 Derby at WargameVault 


The game can be played with any miniatures you have, in either cm, inches, or any other unit of measurement you choose.




At the start of your turn you must decide how many of your 6d6 you will allocate to moving and how much towards turning. Rolling 6s, collisions and running over the track edge cause strain dice to build up that can invalidate some of the dice you roll next turn.


The game includes a light AI guide so you can play solo, rules for running a race season and campaign rules to allow you to develop your car and driver as you take part in races.


It has enough crunch to engage both casual and experienced wargamers, but can also be played in a very child friendly manner by dropping collisions and some of the other mechanics.


I've had a lot of fun writing and playtesting it, I hope others will enjoy it too.

As with all the games i'm working on, this will be a living rulebook; as improvements due to feedback or additions I've written come up i'll update the file.

Wargame release pipeline

As we get near the end of October I thought I would drop an update on the things I have in the pipeline. There's two reasons for this; 1) someone out there in internet-land might be interested.  I would love to hear from anyone who is reading this, or has bought "D6 Derby" and is keen for more. I have a few irons in the fire and any feedback could affect the queue. 2) It helps me keep focussed to write things down.  At the moment "being my own boss" with regards to these projects means there's always the danger I procrastinate. If I use this blog as part blog part work journal it'll incentivise me not to get distracted by other shiny things. My main aims for each of these games are to have games that can be played solo/co-op, introduce something unique in terms of mechanics, to have games that are fun to play, and to make them have enough choice in basic and advanced rules that anyone on their wargaming journey, from young initiate to experienced veteran...

Games Workshops new Chaos Marauders have me reminiscing

I can remember the first release of plastic Chaos Marauders like it was yesterday....even though it was over 20 years ago. Chaos were, in my opinion, the poster boys of Warhammer 6th Edition. And there was something about the Marauders that I found much more appealing than the Chaos Warriors. It could have been the very odd hunched pose of the Chaos Warriors, or that the Army book that came out around that time had a lot of stories on the different Chaos tribes interacting. I think though mostly it was the fact it was one of the first kits that I felt motivated to kit bash (the other was the Empire Militia box). I remember the hours I spent mixing and matching between these two sets and my bits box to make bands for Mordheim.
