Games Workshops new Chaos Marauders have me reminiscing

I can remember the first release of plastic Chaos Marauders like it was yesterday....even though it was over 20 years ago.

Chaos were, in my opinion, the poster boys of Warhammer 6th Edition. And there was something about the Marauders that I found much more appealing than the Chaos Warriors.

It could have been the very odd hunched pose of the Chaos Warriors, or that the Army book that came out around that time had a lot of stories on the different Chaos tribes interacting.

I think though mostly it was the fact it was one of the first kits that I felt motivated to kit bash (the other was the Empire Militia box). I remember the hours I spent mixing and matching between these two sets and my bits box to make bands for Mordheim.

Now with the announcement from GW (https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/articles/jaa76ljd/bring-chaos-to-the-old-world-with-a-horde-of-rampaging-marauders/) I'm starting to feel kit bash fever coming on again.

The difference now is the sheer number of games to choose from to use them for.

When they first released it was much harder to find a ruleset and I was very reliant on Games Workshop and White Dwarf for inspiration, now my shelves (and laptop, phone, tablet) are full of games that would fit these crazed Norscans.

It's also given me more inspiration for warriors for the games i'm working on currently.

I think the other major thing it has done is given me something else....hope.

When Warhammer The Old World came out I was happy to see new life in the form of new rules, but this was tempered a bit by the simple re-released of a very old miniature line.

I had fond memories of, and own a lot of, the original range from before the End Times spoiled things, but it also felt a little unfair that only a few of the "supported" armies were getting new modes.

And it felt like with the release of Cathay this might continue - if you wanted new models you had to wait for a new race being released.

Now though, the revisiting of an old faction from the old list gives me hope that there could be others; maybe new Wood Elves? Updated Orcs? A refresh for the Empire?

I know this might be too much to hope for, but don't take the hope away from me yet.

So, a question, if you could have a range refresh for an Old World army, which would it be?
