D6 Derby race option - pursuit racing
Most of the races played during play-testing were traditional style; everyone lined up on the starting grid and off we went around the course.
But there were also a few races that borrowed an idea from track cycling; pursuit racing.
This was either two player races or four players in teams or two racing against each other.
The rules are simple. You need a symmetrical track (it can have as many twists and turns as you like but it's important both sides travel the same distance having faced the same number of corners) with two start lines on opposite sides.
Two simple examples below, with a track on the left, and on the right racing around a large placemat.
The two players or teams start opposite each other, but heading in the same direction. The winner is the player that catches their opponent, or who passes their start line first after a set number of laps.
This lets the players focus on the course without having to worry about collisions, but gives you a quick win condition if one player is rolling exceptionally well.
