10mm Wargames Atlantic Fantasy Miniatures

Having seen the 10mm Ashigaru up close yesterday I found it hard to resist another trip to my FLGS to pick up the current fantasy offerings from Wargames Atlantic; the "Dwarven Host", the "Boneblades" and the "Orc Horde".

Let's start with the Dwarves;

In this box you get Sword, Axe, Spear and Crossbow armed infantry, as well as cavalry in the way of Ram mounted Dwarves in heavy armour.

There's a very Norse look to the Dwarves and plenty of detail to get a paint brush around.
As with the Ashigaru set the fantasy sets come in stands of 5, 3, 2 and 1, giving you some flexibility in organisation.
The Axes certainly look large enough to mean business.

The Dwarves measure just over 8mm to eye level

The Boneblades are a box of Sword and shield armed skeletons and three command stands. Enough to make Three regiments of 38 (including command).

The Command stand is a musician and a standard bearer. You could add a unit champion by giving one of the other Skeletons a more elaborate helmets colour and shield design.

The Swordsmen have a very Norman feel to them. Again they come in 5, 3, 2 and 1 basings. They measure 10mm to eye level, clearly dead humans rather than Dwarves.

The Orc Horde gives you Swordsmen, Spearmen, Archers and "Warg" mounted Orcs.

Barefoot and very intimidating looking, the Orcs line up in the same options as the other boxes.

I notice in a few places, such as the left hand spearmen above and the second axeman below, WA have taken the decision to fill in the gap between the orcs legs and the lower half of the weapon. While I would rather they hadn't I am sure with a bit of clever painting it wont be noticeable (especially given the scale).

The Wargs are very bulky looking animals and come in a mix of crouched ready to jump and running poses. You get 12 of them in the box, 9 with bows and 3 with swords.

The orcs also come in at 10mm to eye level and are a much more human posture than some other companies make them.

All three boxes came with enough 20mm x 40mm bases to rank your minis up into units.

As with the Ashigaru, i'll share some photos once I start to get paint on them. It's also given me an incentive to start noting some ideas for a fantasy mass battle game based on similar mechanics to my horse and musket rules.

I'm also excited to hear they have other races on the roadmap, it's definitely a good time for small scale fantasy.
